Privacy policy

We ask for a lot: your address, your vehicle, photographs of it. Here is exactly what happens to all of it.

Last updated 18 September 2026.

This policy covers pinksliptitle.com and the case system at pinksliptitle.com/start. Our operating company is named in the terms of service.

What we collect, and why

WhatWhy we need it
Your name, postal address, email and phoneThey go on the Montana application and the bills of sale. Montana will not process a filing without them, and we need somewhere to mail your title.
Your stateIt decides who is legally permitted to inspect your VIN, so it determines the instructions we give you and what goes on your inspector’s cover letter.
Vehicle details: VIN, year, make, model, odometer, valueThese are the substance of the application. The value has to agree across every document in the filing, so we record it once.
Photographs of the vehicle, its VIN, the odometer and the safety labelMontana requires them as attachments to the filing.
How you acquired the vehicle, and what you did to find the original titleWe repeat this to Montana on a form we sign under penalty of law, so it has to come from you.
Payment detailsWe never see or store your card number. It is entered on Stripe’s own page and held by Stripe. We keep only Stripe’s reference for your customer record and saved card, which is what lets us charge the agreed balance when your title arrives.

Who else sees it

  • The State of Montana: the filing itself. That is the point of the exercise.
  • Your inspector: the cover letter and MV20 you hand them carry the vehicle details and your address. Nothing else.
  • Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (hosting, database and document storage), Resend (sending email) and Hostinger (this website and our mailbox). Each sees only what it needs to do its job.
  • NMVTIS, the federal title database, for vehicles from 1981 onward, where Montana requires that report.

We do not sell your information, and we never will. There is no advertising network on this site, no behavioral tracking, and no third-party analytics script. We share data with law enforcement only where we are legally required to.

How long we keep it

Seven years from the completion of your case. Title records occasionally need revisiting years later, whether that is a question from a DMV or a dispute about a transfer, and having the file is the only way to answer. After that we delete it.

If your case never completes, we close and delete it 90 days after our last contact with you.

Cookies

One, and it is necessary: a session cookie that keeps you signed in to your own case after you click an emailed link. It carries no personal data and nothing is used to track you across other sites. There is no advertising cookie to consent to, which is why you are not being asked to dismiss a banner.

Your choices

  • See what we hold. Ask and we will send you your whole case file.
  • Correct it. You can edit your own details up to the point we prepare your forms; after that, email us and we will change it and reissue.
  • Delete it. Ask any time. If we have already filed with Montana we cannot unfile it, because that record is the state’s. But we will delete our copy at the end of the retention period described above, or sooner where the law lets us.
  • Stop emailing you. Service emails about your own case are part of the service and we would be failing you by withholding them. We send nothing else. There is no marketing list.

Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have these rights by statute. We extend them to everyone, because operating two standards would be more work than doing it properly once.

Children

This service is for adults titling vehicles. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change this materially we will email anyone with an open case rather than quietly reposting the page. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
